Traditional areas and new districts

Milan is a city that is endlessly transforming itself and even though its origins date back to ancient times, it is an extraordinarily young city that looks to the future.
New and modern districts are springing up alongside those already there and are constantly changing the face of the city. This has resulted in the creation of new university sites and residential districts.
Some age-old quarters have been ‘salvaged’ and have become centres of business or even ‘trend’ centres. The past combines with the present to create a new identity for the city. The areas where Milan’s night life comes alive are also many. Amongst these are the Navigli, Brera, Corso Como and the Isola district.
Finally, it is worth remembering that the numerous infrastructure projects currently under construction in preparation for Expo 2015 will also redraw the territorial face of Milan.
