A journey made amongst nature, history and architecture. This is Parco del Ticino, the first Italian regional and fluvial park, created in 1974 to defend this important river and the nature surrounding it, from urbanisation and the environmental decline caused by the area’s heavy industrialisation. The most important centre of the area is Magenta. A very important battle took place here, known as the Battle of Magenta (4th June, 1859), which saw the victory of the Franco-Piedmontese against the Austrians, the first step towards the Unification of Italy. The extraordinary villas of Corbetta are veritable masterpieces of architecture. They are private residences open to the public during May thanks to the guided visits to the area’s artistic treasures.
