Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia
Municipality
MilanoPassing through the foundry entrance, you enter a place with an atmosphere all of its own. Far from the hustle and bustle of city traffic, the area has held on to the charm of its past. In 1806 the Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia [Napoleonic Eugenia Foundry] was founded here in the heart of the Isola district, close to the Santa Maria alla Fontana Sanctuary. It was an important bronze foundry named by the Manfredini family in honour of the viceroy of the Kingdom of Italy, Eugenio Beauharnais. Today the old buildings house a museum dedicated to the history of the art of bronze casting and the work of the Barigozzi family, who having succeeded the Manfredis, went on to produce bells and bronze monuments for over a century. The Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia is still a place of work and of art and culture where exhibitions, concerts, events and cultural initiatives are held.
Notes
Museum The Baringozzi and Sons Company Museum is inside the old, carefully restored work areas and preserves documents, photographs and the tools and equipment the family firm used in casting for over a century. The Baringozzi family, who already had a long history in the art of casting, moved their business here in the middle of the 19th century. It became the most famous bronze foundry of its time and was specialised in the production of bells and bronze statues. The museum aims to preserve the memory of this ancient trade by inviting the public to visit the work areas and to get to know the complex process of bell making, from creating the templates right up to casting the bell.Contact us
