History
Milan, a city with ancient origins and a great, yet often turbulent past, tells its own history through some of its museums. The personalities that have lived it, loved it and written about it are many. Individuals like Alessandro Manzoni, for example, whose dwelling place is now the Centre for Manzoni Studies (Centro di Studi Manzoniani) Milan’s art collections bear witness to the numerous vicissitudes that have placed the city at the centre of Italian history. The Revival Museum (Museo del Risorgimento), for example, houses prints, paintings, sculptures, drawings, weapons and memorabilia illustrating the events that occurred between Napoleon Bonaparte’s first Italian campaign in 1796 and the annexation of Rome into the Kingdom of Italy in 1870.
