Opening a Bed&Breakfast
What is a Bed & Breakfast?
A B&B is a private home which takes guests in exchange for payment.
In order to operate as a B&B you must:
- Have one or more spare rooms in your home in which tourists can stay
- Report to your Local Authority that you are starting the business
- Because of their nature, B&Bs are exempt from business requirements such as registration with the Chamber of Commerce: nor is there any need to register for VAT, because the business is not full-time
- You must provide guests with a receipt showing date of issue, sum received and number of days’ stay.
Once the Local Authority has authorised the opening of the business, the owner of the B&B is at liberty to set the rates and these must be reported to the Province.
