Centro culturale Cascina Grande

The story of the former Zanoletti Cascina at Rozzano, now the Cascina Grande, is that of the large 19th century estates in the "Bassa Milanese". Built in 1881 on the request of one of the major landowners in the area, the Marquis of Zanoletti, the farmhouse stands behind the old centre of Rozzano located on the Naviglio Pavese, 12 kilometres from Milan. It was home to agricultural activity undergoing mechanisation that probably led to the creation of this unique plant in the shape of a V, totally different from the square or rectangular shapes typical of Lombard farmhouses. For decades, the estate was one of the most florid rice production and picking centres in the area.

Notes

The "large" wing of the old farm complex has been transformed into a modern, welcoming library.

About 2.8 km from the beginning of the towpath, you will come to the characteristic Borlà-giò lock (in the dialect of Milan, its name means to fall, tumble or collapse). If you cross the lock to Via Pavese and follow Via Ugo La Malfa for about 400 metres, you will come to Via Palmiro Togliatti where, by turning right, you can make a stop at the Cascina Grande Cultural Centre.

Returning to the bicycle path, continue south (towards Pavia) surrounded by the countryside of the South Milan Agricultural Park.
About 4.3 km from the beginning of the bicycle path, it turns onto Via dei Giovi by way of Via Zibido, which crosses the Pavese Canal. If you turn left onto Via dei Giovi, the first right will take you along Via Asilo Salterio. After about 350 m, you will come to the Villa Salterio farmstead.

You will find the Church of Saints Vincenzo and Bernardo on the same road.

Returning to the bicycle path, the route continues calmly towards Pavia. About 6 km from the beginning of the bicycle path itinerary, the path moves to the left side. From here, you can take Via Vittorio Veneto for 300 m to the Parish Church of the Nativity.

Returning to the bicycle path, continue for about 4.16 km and you will come to State Highway SS35, where you pause for the night at Via dei Giovi, 12.
